The News

This is my wife and her high school cheerleading squad. She is front and center. Her blond hair is the most enormous and lion-like--this is why she is captain and whatnot. What is she cheering for? (Or rather, in this case, at Vincennes University, what is she practicing to cheer for?) She is cheering for (and practicing to cheer for) the following: We've sold our house and have bought a new one! We will be moving very soon. We will still be in Muncie. We are moving to the other side of the Tillotson, where the grass is greener. Ready? O.! K.!

The Bad Times

The flu is running through this house.
It is running through me and my little boy.
My wife is running on tired.
My baby girl is running on luck.

Things from Pilcrow!

1. This is what I made from my book for the auction for the New Orleans Public Library. The auction raised $4,000 and my Hitler Turtle was just a small part of that. This is the note that came with the turtle:
Congratulations on your Hitler Turtle!

It is an interesting, valuable, and pathetic turtle you have purchased.
Feeding from its own feces, it roams with bloody teeth through
very tiny aquariums. It’s not evil, but the Hitler Turtle has an
unpleasant disposition. Not a good pet for small children. Mostly
interesting for its shell which very clearly resembles Adolf Hitler.
Uncertain origins. Don’t feed it. Don’t clean it. Don’t even look at it!
2. And this clip is up on youtube:

How to Appreciate Chicago

I just came from here and it was very nice. I saw a couple of familiar faces and a number of new ones. I made a Hitler turtle out of my book for the benefit auction for the New Orleans Public Library. That makes me feel philanthropic. I rarely get a chance to feel like that. A lot of driving today, but also a new memory of Chicago. Other important memories of Chicago: Seeing King Tut with my family in the 70's, Cub games with Brad, going to The Art Institute when I was dating my wife, my brother's wedding, my sister-in-law, another wedding, seeing Elvis Costello and the Attractions with my wife when she was just my girlfriend...it was a beautiful night. She wore a polka-dotted dress. I wore a sort of fifties style navy shirt. There was a mirror above the bed in our super swanky hotel room. But we didn't even have sex. We were close and half naked, but we just laughed about it.

Totally, Totally True

When I was a kid I ground a pebble into my forehead.
I don't know exactly how I did that.
The doctors told my parents it would work its way out eventually.
30 something years later, it seems to be coming out.
It is right in the middle of my forehead.
I tell my wife, "I am turning into a unicorn."
The pebble seems to have grown into a rock.
The rock seems to have developed a small pouch beneath it.
I can feel it when I rub it in a circular way.
The pouch seems to be pushing the rock toward the surface.
The surface keeps rising.
Soon my new horn will be all rhino, fuckers!
If you watch Sandy Weill, former Chairman and CEO of Citigroup,
on Charlie Rose you will see that he, too, seems
to be becoming a unicorn. We are very similar in this way.

Pilcrow! Again!

This thing is just looking so cool. Why? I think it's Amy Guth.

I don't know anything different. It's just cool.

The world is a very strange and lucky place.

Tonight I am writing a haiku:

Fuckin A Haiku

Amy Guth. As far

as I can tell, Amy Guth

could just kick your ass!

Pilcrow Lit Fest!

Somethings owe everything to Amy Guth.
Like the Pilcrow Lit Fest.
I'll be there.
Moderating panels.
Acting like a panelist.
Acting, acting, acting.
It will be great fun because great goodness is behind it.
I have also been asked to literally turn my mustache book
into a 2 or 3 dimensional work of art for an auction.
As of now, I am working on a Hitler Turtle.
I do not know how much it might get,
but I hope you are there to find out.
Auction, auction, auction!

The Most Beautiful Sisters You Can Imagine

I love my wife. Back then, we all looked cool like that. Except I was different. Yuck, I have to say when I say stuff like that. Back then, my sister-in-law, who introduced me to my wife, looked like my daughter, who also looks like me too.

The Importance of Putting Your Left Foot Forward and Pointing Your Toe

My wife and her sisters invite you to an evening of dance (if by dance I mean poetry, which I do) this Friday at the MT Cup. While my wife and her sisters appear to be dancers from 1984 or so, they are actually advocating the poetry of Matt, Amanda, and Nate---calling out to you, Muncie poetry person! That includes, but is not limited to: Ryan Apking, Robert Bosworth, Kyle Brown, Mallory Diener, Michael Graczyk, Ryan Ingram, Lindsay Littrell, Amanda Sabo, Rebecca Denoncour, Rebecca Parker, Jennifer Wright, Jade Metzger, Shaun Gannon, Lindsay Gross, Matin Keck, Ryan Rader, Bridgette Shively, Katie Speth, Caleb Winters, Brent Royster, Michael Meyerhofer, Todd McKinney, Yvonne Williams, Jeff Pearson, Mark Neely, Jill Christman, Daniel Bailey, Adam Bauer, Arrah Fisher, Paul Tillema, Josh Chatwin.....all of you, and so much more (so many more!)-- come and bring friends! It will be very bitchin'!

One Week from Today!

It will be very beautiful. I'm not telling you what to do, but you should attend this. Matt Hart. Amanda Nadelberg. Nate Logan. I know Matt and Nate and they are fabulous humans and poet guys. I don't know Amanda but I will soon and, I can tell by her work, that will be a great pleasure. Muncie is blessed in little ways. This reading will be an example of that. Attend, fuckers!

How Prescribed Medication and a Couple of Beers Work

This is what remains of my wisdom teeth. My father-in-law, Al, a good guy, a dentist, removed these chunks 2 or 3 years ago. Today, I bit down and hit a rock of something and split my tooth (a molar). Al is giving me a Sunday morning root canal and a tooth capping. He is very generous. I can't afford dental care, but I'm grateful for my extended and immediate family. Ye who hath shattered teeth, Ye with hopes: notice all of us others with hopes! Notice how important family is.
